Fashion Friday : Beachy Chic

Happy Friday, Friends! (I'm shouting this at the top of my lungs! It's just been one of those weeks.) For this week's Fashion Friday I put together a look that's perfect for a night out at the beach. We're having a heat wave here in Georgia and breathable cotton is a must. I've been crushing on this white eyelet maxi from Michael Kors for quite sometime and thought it would be the perfect focal piece for today's theme.

What do you think? Love it? Not so much? Any favorites?
Here's wishing you a fantastic weekend! Stay cool, dolls! :)

Before I Lay Me Down to Sleep...

We all have a nightly beauty ritual and the older I get, the longer it seems. More products for this and that...and wrinkles. I guess that comes with the territory of becoming "more mature!" I've learned about some great products from fellow bloggers so I thought I'd share my favorites.

With all of my travels, I try to keep my ritual thorough, yet tidy. If it doesn't fit in the quart size baggie, it doesn't go! Here's a little glimpse of what my beauty ritual looks like before I drift off to sleep each night...

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6

I'd love to hear about your nightly beauty ritual. Do we use any of the same products?
Hope you are having a great week so far!

My First Tasty Tuesday!

I don't know about you but I'm glad it's Tuesday. Mondays just seem to drag and I'm always glad to see them in my rearview. Today, I'm linking up for the first time with Alissa at 33 Shades of Green for Tasty Tuesday and I hope to find some inspiration from other bloggers.

Often times, I forget about using my crockpot during the summer months. I guess I just associate it with cold weather dishes. But recently, my mom reminded me of an easy to make crockpot sensation that's perfect for summer time.

If you remember from this post, I told you that I generally don't cook by a recipe on a day to day basis, so bare with me here.

Publix had extra lean pork loins on sale last week so I snapped some up for a mid-week dinner. There was plenty leftover which meant there was another night I didn't have to cook. Sweet!

I started by browning the pork loins on top of the stove and seasoned them with sea salt, garlic pepper, onion powder and Magic Chef's Meat Magic. Once they were nicely browned, I put them in the crockpot with some water (enough to cover the meat entirely) and half a bottle of Sticky Fingers Carolina BBQ Sauce (you can use any kind of BBQ sauce you like. The thicker, the better). Then I put the lid on and set the timer at four hours on high.

Since summer veggies are at their peak, I chose squash and zucchini for our sides. I seasoned them with sea salt, garlic pepper, added some raw Vidalia onions and drizzled some olive oil on them, then sauteed everything together for just a few minutes until softened.

By the time we were home from work, we had delicious, tender pulled pork with very little effort on my part. The most time consuming part was picking it up from the grocery! Perfect for a BBQ sandwich or if you are trying to cut carbs, it's great solo too. When I got home, all I had to do was cook up the veggies. Easy breezy! And clean up was a cinch too!

A delicious, yet easy summer dinner. Don't discount the crockpot during the summer months. Pull that baby out, put your feet up and start taking it easy!

Don't forget: There's still time to enter the "mini" giveaway! You are gonna love this OPI color! :)

I'm linking up with Alissa at 33 Shades of Green. Be sure to check her out. Excellent recipes! Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Weekend Update

Hi Friends! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Have you entered the "mini" giveaway yet? Only a few days left to enter! Details here!

The Husband and I hit the repeat button and enjoyed yet another relaxing weekend at home with no plans. I could really get used to this! The weather was great and we spent all day Saturday and Sunday by the pool. It was HOT but really nice to hang out and soak up some rays.

When I got home on Friday, I was super excited to find a box on my doorstep. Here's a sneak peek...

I ordered a little something for an upcoming event and wedding. Pictures to come soon!

Friday night we went to dinner at Bocado. If you've been reading this blog from it's humble beginnings, you may remember my review on their ah-mazing burger. The Husband had never experienced the burger for himself and it was fine time he did. And I coveted every bite...

I had the pan roasted chicken with local grits, collards and white wine-tobasco sauce. It was indeed delicious and very southern. I enjoyed it and was glad I branched out and tried something other than the burger. The menu changes daily (impressive) but the burger is always available. There's always something new to try!

I must tell you about our appetizer though. It was out of this world! This appetizer was a southern's delight (much like my entree!). Georgia Peaches, big woods blue cheese, benton's 18month ham and balsamico (which is basically a balsamic vinegar reduction). It was topped off with a few leaves of arugala and olive oil. I can't even tell you how good it was! I tried to duplicate it before we headed out to dinner on Saturday night and I must say, it was good. I used prosciutto instead of the benton's ham and it turned out pretty well. I think the one very important trick is for the peaches to be really ripe. I'm definitely gonna try making it again. So darn good!

Saturday morning we ran a few errands and then rushed to get by the pool. That evening, we headed to JCT Kitchen, one of our absolute favorite restaurants in Atlanta, famous for their "Angry Mussels." You know how I feel about mussels. Enough said! I had to get my fix! :)

Picture taken half way in! Oops! :)
Sunday was pretty much the same as Saturday. We enjoyed an amazing message at church and then scurried home to get some lunch and then get by the pool. This girl is working on her tan!

And another weekend has flown by. How does this keep happening? I hope you had a nice weekend. In a few short hours, Monday will be behind us but until then...

I'm linking up at a few places today. Be sure to check them all out! :)

Fashion Friday : Lusting for Lace

Happy Fashion Friday, Dolls! I'm thrilled about today being Friday. I'm so ready for the weekend!
First thing's first...welcome to all my new followers! Thank you for liking this blog enough to click on the GFC and follow along. I'm happy to have you and I hope you stick around for a while! Secondly, have you entered my "mini" giveaway? If not, you should. I'm loving the new OPI color. It's fabulous and perfect for summer! More info at the bottom of this post.

Now for the Fashion Friday Post...As you may know, I absolutely love fabrics with texture. Remember my Fashion Friday post on crochet? I'm currently lusting over anything lace. Lace can play so many different roles, which is part of the reason I love it so much. It can be elegant, seductive, pure, wholesome, timeless and delicate, but no matter what role it is playing, it's always feminine.

Lace is turning up all over the place these days and I couldn't be happier! I just bought a lace dress and a lace shirt. I hope to show them to you soon in a long overdue OOTD post...stay tuned. In the meantime, here are a few of our favorite celebs donning beautiful lace numbers...

Michelle Williams, January 2012

I ADORE everything about this dress.
Kate Middleton, May 2012

Charlize Theron, April 2012

Stacy Keibler, January 2012
Isn't she a doll?
Sarah Hyland, January 2012

Now here are a few everyday applications for us non-celebrities...

Wear to: a date night on the town.

Wear to: work!

Wear to: run weekend errands.

Wear to: an afternoon social gathering.

Wear to: Brunch with the girls.

Are you lusting over lace, like me? Not so much?
Happy Friday, my friends. Don't forget to enter my "mini" giveaway!

35 Years and Still Going Strong: An Ode to My Parentals!

This post is for my dear, sweet parents. Today marks their 35th anniversary. Thirty five years ago today, they crossed the state line from Georgia to South Carolina and eloped without anyone's permission. Such rebels! I love it! (I never had to wonder where my inner rebel came from!) These young love birds had no idea what God had in store for them but the one thing they did know is that it was forever. No turning back.

After five years of marriage, I came along and my brother, a few years after that. I'm sure we tested their patience on many, many occasions, but their love for us and one another never faltered. My brother and I are now grown and on our own and even after 35 years, our parents are still like newlyweds. It's seriously the cutest thing I've ever seen!

So here's to the parentals! Thanks Mom and Dad for being such wonderful role models for my brother and me, and for showing The Husband and me what a good marriage and partnership looks like. When I got married, you told me that a marriage is like a garden, you must cultivate it in order for it to grow. That's honestly the best marital advice I've ever received. No one said marriage was easy but you sure make it look that way. Thanks for everything, but mostly for the relationship you have with each other. It's truly the foundation of our family. I don't know where I'd be without you and I am who I am because of you. I can't say thank you enough. I'm forever grateful.

Cheers to 35 years and many, many more! Your family loves you more than you know.
The Husband and I will be having some champagne tonight in your honor (and I'm sure my brother will too)! XO, Sara :)

Happy Summer + Mini Giveaway!

Hi there, lovelies! Today is the first day of summer and I couldn't be happier! As you know, summer is my favorite season of all time and in it's honor, I felt a giveaway was more than appropriate.

I don't know about you but I treat myself to pedicures about every two weeks, year round. I factor it into my "health and beauty" budget. It's a necessity for me, especially this time of year when everyone is looking at your toes in those flip flops! But even when I can't get to the nail salon, I'm all about a quick DYI pedi.

With a pedicure on the books this week, I dashed in to Ulta to see if OPI had any fun summer colors for me to lust over. To my surprise, there was a display front and center as I walked in the door. The new Minnie Mouse Collection is too cute and the colors are perfect for summer.

Here's the full Minnie Mouse OPI Collection...
Visit the OPI website for color names.

I just couldn't resist the hue titled "If you Moust You Moust," shown above third from the left. I loved it so much (I totally tested it on my thumb nail!), I picked up an extra bottle along with a few mini sized essentials for the tootsies, just for you!

So without further ado, here's the "mini" Minnie Mouse pedi giveaway...

"Mini" Pedicure Care Package Includes:
OPI Nail Polish in "If You Moust You Moust"-Minnie Mouse Collection
Pocket Pedi Kit including a nail brush, nail file, pumice stone and 3 wood cuticle sticks
Block Party four sided buffing block
Toe separaters

This giveaway is super easy. The only thing you have to do is follow this blog through Google Friend Connect (GFC in the right side bar) and leave me a comment on this post letting me know you want to enter.

For an optional entry, you can like my {Facebook page} and follow me on {twitter} for an additional entry each. Leave me a comment for each additional entry. Easy breezy, just like summer time!

This giveaway will be open through midnight, PST, on Wednesday, June 27th. A winner will be chosen via random number generator.

Cheers to Summer Time, Dolls! Only two more days until the weekend! :)

What's Cooking?

Now that the weather is nice and we are just a day away from the first official day of summer, I'm trying to take advantage of all the season's fruits and veggies that are at their peak. I went to the grocery last night and stocked up on all things summer. This week, The Husband and I will be noshing on squash, zucchini, watermelon, pineapple, peaches and thriving summer herbs from my little patio garden.

I cook a lot like my beautiful Mother who is famous for not following a recipe. A pinch of this, a tad of that, add this "to taste." When I first started cooking, the planner in me would get frustrated with my Mom for not following a recipe. And now look at me...I'm just like her! Honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

But, some days, especially when my culinary creativity is on vacation, I enjoy following recipes. About two years ago, I found Gena Knox and her amazing cookbook, Southern My Way. After reading the description, I immediately pre-ordered three of them, one for myself, one for my Mom and one for a friend. I hit the jackpot! It's the gift that keeps on giving, season after season.

This time of year, I always turn to Gena Knox and her "clean" recipes. She uses normal ingredients and absolutely nothing fake. I've made several of her recipes and every time I get rave reviews. Some of her recipes are family recipes (accompanied by a brief description of who/where it came from) which is especially endearing. And did I mention she's a Georgia Peach, like myself? What's not to love? Seriously. :)

You can learn more about Gena by visiting her website {here}. I strongly encourage you to check her out and order her cookbook. You will be so glad you did!

This week I'm planning to try her recipe for Zucchini and Squash Icebox Pickles. Ahhh, I love summer time...

What's going on in your kitchen these days? Do you enjoy cooking this time of year? Or do you like to "take the summer off?"

Have a great Tuesday, everyone! :)

Our Weekend...

Happy Monday, friends! (that was my lame attempt at embracing Monday) :) Why does Monday always come around so quickly? The weekends really seem to be getting shorter. Why is that? I digress.

I hope you all had a wonderful Father's Day! The Husband and I had a nice, relaxing weekend. It was just what I needed after traveling all week. We tried a new restaurant, spent time by the pool, enjoyed some Bud Light Lime-a-Ritas, ran a few errands, met some new friends, watched Dallas (yes, I watched again. I made The Husband watch since he missed it Wednesday night) and loved having no set schedule. Glorious.

Here are a few pictures from our weekend...

How adorable is this nautical plastic cup?
I found these at Target last summer. Totally appropriate for Friday's Nautical Digs Post
Friday night we decided to try one of Atlanta's newest restaurants, The Optimist. This sustainable seafood restaurant has only been open for 3.5 weeks and we were lucky to snap up a 9:45 reservation. It was so delicious, I wish I was sitting there right now. The space is refreshing yet industrial, much like it's sister restaurant JCT Kitchen, and gives off a fun vibe oozing with foodies and wine lovers alike. Everything on the menu is carefully chosen and comes from a region less than 50 miles from a coastline. This includes the wine list, which is full of coastal region choices. Pretty impressive if you ask me. The cocktail list is creative and full of organic liquors which we have a soft spot for. There's just something special about organic vodka. I promise you won't feel bad the next day. Trust me!

After a cocktail at the main bar, our table was ready. We were seated next to a pair of the friendliest girls who were celebrating a new job and a move to Charleston. As we often do, we struck up a conversation with them and by the end of the night, we were the last two tables left, had traded bites, email addresses and business cards. I love it when that happens! We left two friends richer. I hope they are reading this and had as great of a time as we did!

Now on to the food...We adore mussels and just had to try them here. Let me just tell you, they did not disappoint!

Mussels in a crabby-coconut broth, birds eye chile and hand picked herbs (that included my favorite herb, cilantro!),
served with crusty shrimp bread.
The broth had a kick thanks to the chile. I loved these!

West Coast Oyster. I just had to try this one as I grew up on East Coat oysters. This little guy was served with freshly shaved horseradish and a cilantro mignonette sauce. At $3.50 a pop, I only had one but it was worth every bite (even if it was only one bite!). West Coast oysters are much sweeter and less briny. Delish!

For my entree, I chose the Maine Sea Scallops with Ox Tail Marmalade and brown butter chicken jus. This dish was out of this world! We both agreed that I won the "Best Plate" challenge.

My entree of Maine Scallops
I first had ox tail while in Curacao last summer. I fell in love with it's savory taste and tender texture. A good indication that I was going to love this dish.

The Husband chose the Duck Fat Poached Swordfish with pickled sweet peppers and crispy pancetta. It was delicious as well! We both cleaned our plates. Unfortunately, we were too full for dessert. Maybe next time!
The Husband's entree of Swordfish

Saturday night we opted for an old favorite dinner spot after a long afternoon at the pool. I wore a turquoise Mexican inspired dress, crochet shrug, gold MK espadrilles and my favorite necklace.
It's been almost a year since my parents gave me this necklace for my birthday.
 It's my absolute favorite!

Adult beverages enjoyed by the pool! What can I say, it was a long week! :)
Bud Light Lime-a-Ritas. If you haven't tried these, you need to. They are awesome!

That pretty much sums up our weekend. It was so wonderful to spend time together and have nowhere to be. What did you do this weekend? Anything fun?

Here's wishing you a great, productive week!

Cause Every Girl's Crazy 'Bout A Sharp Dressed Man!

Father's Day is this Sunday and if there's one thing I swoon over, it's a sharp dressed man. My Dad has always been a great dresser, thanks to my oh-so stylish Mama, and lucky for me, The Husband is a great dresser too. This Father's Day I'm sending my Dad something every guy should have in his closet, a Southern Tide Classic Polo. These polos are made well, they fit well and from what I'm told, they are comfortable.

I'm loving this polo in Offshore Green!

And why not pair a classic polo with these handsome pants?

And why not complete the look with a needlepoint belt?

And what about shoes, you ask. How about these?

And there you have it. A sharply dressed man, coastal style. So here's a Happy Father's Day shout out to the first man I ever loved, my Dad. I'm so proud to call you my Dad! I am truly blessed.

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there!

Cheers to Friday Eve! :)

Tonight is the night! Who's excited about the return of Dallas? I remember begging my mom to let me stay up to watch it. I used to hum the theme song and can still hear it in my head to this day every time I think about the show. I was a young fan for sure but it was my Uncle Fred who was the dedicated fan in the family. I can't wait to get his take on the revival of this TV classic. As you know, I'm traveling this week but I'm going to try my best to catch it tonight especially since I forgot to set the DVR. :(

Here are the details: Tune in for the two hour season premier on Wednesday, June 13th at 9pm EST/8pm CST on TNT.

Are you planning to watch? If so, please check in with me here, on Facebook or on twitter to let me know your thoughts.

Cheers to the classics! Oh and cheers to being one step closer to the weekend! :)

Sea It, Buy It!

It's no secret summer is my absolute favorite season and naturally, I'm a pushover for sea inspired decor. What can I say, it reminds me of home. To my delight, Z Gallerie is featuring sea inspired decor again this year. Their Seaside Style Collection is elegant yet affordable. I have already added both the silver and white starfish bowls to my collection. I'm tempted to snap up a few more pieces but I'm working on justifying it!

When The Husband and I purchased our home five years ago, I knew my decorating vision would navigate me down a coastal, sea inspired path. Years later, I have created a coastal abode in the middle of a city at least four hours from a beach. It may not make sense to some but it's the perfect sanctuary for us and provides a safe haven from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. Maybe one day I will get brave enough to show it to you, that is if you would like to see it!

So what do you think of Z Gallerie's Seaside Style Collection? Love it? Not so much? Where is your favorite to shop for home decor? I'd love to hear!

Have a great Tuesday, lovelies! :)

Weekend Round Up

Happy Monday! I hope y'all had a great weekend. The Husband and I enjoyed a nice, relaxing weekend, which was just what I needed. We spent some time by the pool, ran some errands, tried out a new restaurant and caught up on things we DVR'd. It was glorious and it's hard to believe Monday is here.

Here are a few pics from our weekend. Why do the weekends go by so fast? :(

Saturday night's dinner at Do (as in Do, Re, Me and pizza dough!)
This place is so cool! Everything is ordered via ipad and you can even vote on songs to be played by the DJ through the Remote app on the iPhone. Songs with the most votes move to the top of the playlist.
It was so much fun! Absolute Awesomeness!
Our brownie dessert. It was delish!

We enjoyed the view of the Atlanta skyline from our table.

Necklace and bracelet recently purchased at local boutique, fab'rik.
I'm loving both pieces!

I'm traveling again this week but don't worry, posts should stay pretty steady. Hopefully I will have some fun adventures to share with you when I return. In the meantime, have you liked Social Sara on Facebook? Once I hit 100 likes, I will be doing another giveaway!

Cheers to making it a great week!

I'm linking up with Leeann at Join the Gossip, Dana at five30three and Sami at Sami's Shenanigans for the Weekend Update.
