Our Anniversary + What We've Learned

Hi Friends! I hope you had a great weekend! I'm sorry I didn't post yesterday...I just didn't have it in me. We had a jam packed weekend and I was exhausted by Sunday night. The Husband and I started our weekend on Friday evening with a late dinner at an old favorite. It was the kick off to our Cinco de Mayo/Anniversary weekend.

Saturday morning we got up bright and early to head to The Husband's cousin's college graduation in North Carolina. It was a long drive and the weather was awful, but thankfully, we made it in one piece. It was a unique graduation and we had a great time celebrating. Nothing like an art school graduation! Oh to be a brand new college graduate again with your entire life ahead of you. A little bit scary, but exhilarating too. Such an exciting time!

Even with all the graduation festivities and The Derby, the highlight of the weekend was our sixth wedding anniversary. We celebrated six years on May 5th. I still can't believe it's already been six years! We ate a lot of Mexican food, reminisced on our wedding day and our lives together. Instead of recapping the weekend with instagram pics, I thought I'd share a few wedding pics, along with a few things we've learned about marriage...

1. I think the first thing we learned is that marriage is a partnership in every sense of the word.
Being a team player is crucial. Partnership goes hand in hand with...you guessed it...compromise.
It's all about give and take, my friends.
Cliche? Maybe so, but it's true.

2. Communication is key.
I think it's safe to say we all know males and females interpret things entirely different.
(Remember that book Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus? Yeah, it's probably worth a second read!)

3.  Laugh OFTEN! We've found that laughter isn't only good for the soul but good for a marriage, too.
Relax, laugh at yourself...and each other!
Lord knows it would have been a long six years if we didn't stop and laugh at ourselves from time to time.

{Bonus pics: two of my bridal portraits for your viewing pleasure!}

We are by NO means experts but a work in progress, indeed. Learning these things and keeping our Faith at the center of our marriage has proven to make things a little easier.
I think my mom said it best when she told us
"A marriage is like a garden. If you don't cultivate it, it will not grow."
Boy was she right!
What's your best piece of marital advice?

Happy Tuesday, Loves!

  1. Oh my you were a gorgeous bride! Congrats on 6 years and many many more!

  2. Wow... you were a stunning bride my dear! Congratulations!

  3. What beautiful pictures! Happy Anniversary!

  4. What a fun post. Great advice for me, too :) Lovely portraits, and I love your dress. I am always drawn to lace!

  5. Happy anniversary sweet friend! Hope it's lovely! Your pics were gorgeous!

  6. Happy Anniversary! That's all such solid advice:) I think patience and a sense of humor are key in any successful relationship. There will always be those ups and downs, but laughter and being understanding helps you get through the tough times.

  7. Happy {belated} Anniversary!! You are absolutely stunning and I just loved seeing your pictures! They are beautiful!! Isn't it amazing how fast time goes?? Here's to many, many more wonderful years together for you and the hubby!
